It is difficult to decide correctly the degree of deafness in a patient of simulated deafness caused by accidents during labor. The authors conversed with a patient under anesthesia produced by intravenous injection of amytal, and found that he could normaly understand what was spoken to.
Amytal interview is useful for treatment as well as for examination of a patient suspected of simulated deafness and unwilling for receiving examination.
