Abstract

Ten patients, 4 males and 6 females from 29 to 70 years old, with recurrent ulcerous stomatitis (chronisch rezidivierende Aphthen) were successfully treated by the authors with corticoid. Many of them, of course, had been already ineffectively treated with various kinds of therapeutic agents such as vitamines, antihistamines or topical antibiotics etc.
The authors orally administered “Predonin”, one of corticoids, the daily (lose of which was gradually decreased from 20mg to 10mg in 7 days, and obtained following results.
1) The ulcer itself reacted remarkably against this corticoid, i. e. ulcers disappeared promptly in almost all cases.
2) On the other hand, however, ulcers showed a tendency to recur in 7 cases in spite of this treatment. But the final rate of healing was 80%, treating the recurred patients also with a second administration of this corticoid.
From above mentioned clinical experiences the authors are of opinion that corticoids are effective as therapeutic agents for recurrent ulcerous stomatitis.
