Abstract
When a person has difficulty in listening when talking to several people in noisy surroundings or on the phone, he or she is aware of hearing loss and visits an ENT clinic. However, in cases where the hearing test results are normal, there is a dissociation between the patients perception of hearing and the test results. Especially in cases where the patient is aware of such difficulty in listening, auditory processing disorder (APD) should be suspected. However, since there are no diagnostic criteria for APD, it is difficult to make a diagnosis. In this study, we approached such cases of APD from the aspects of auditory psychological and cognitive tests and background factors. As a result, we found that binaural hearing tests, rapid speech tests, directional function tests, and HINT are effective tests for extracting complaints of APD. On the other hand, from the cognitive aspect, the assessment of attention and working memory is important for the extraction of APD. As background factors, it is necessary to check for ASD and ADHD tendencies, including those in the gray zone. It is necessary to consider support in daily life by surrounding people for listening difficulties.
