Abstract
This paper describes our adjuvant laser therapy, its preliminary results and the post-therapeutic articulatory function. The adjuvant laser therapy is indicated for advanced T1 and superficial T2 and T3 lesions. It employs the following procedures. First, the visible and palpable carcinoma is removed using CO2 laser. A full-dose irradiation (6, 000rad in total) follows. Local infusion chemotherapy is performed in addition when it is possible. Ifinduration develops during radiotherapy, it is removed using the laser. Ten patients underwent this treatment and none of them developed recurrence at the primary site. The time interval from the onset of their treatment to the evaluation ranged from 5 months to 2 years and 9 months. In 3 patients, intelligibility of 100 Japanese monosyllables was examined. The intelligibility score ranged from 87.8 to 93.6 per cent, indicating an almost normal speech intelligibility.
