Abstract
A case of a laryngeal fibrosarcoma was reported. The patient was a 33-year-old male, and was treated by infrahyoidal pharyngotomy and cryosurgery. The authors made review of the literature of Japan on this subject. Only 42 cases were reported. Of the 42 patients, 36 were male and 5 female; and age was distributed mostly in the seventh decade of life. The primary site in the larynx was mostly in the vocal cord, and secondly, in the arytenoid and subglottic area; and it was also in other sites. The sarcomas were classified as spindle cell sarcoma (11 cases), fibrosarcoma (10 cases), pleomorphic sarcoma (8 cases) and others. Thirty-four patients (81%) had the disease controlled. In spite of its being a malignant tumor, the outcome of most cases was relatively benign.
