Abstract
Eighty-eight patients had type N tympanoplasty with ossicular reconstruction. The procedure was classified as successful when the postoperative hearing level met at least one of these three conditions: 1) a hearing level above 40 dB, 2) a gain of more than 15 dB, or 3) an air-bone gap of less than 20 dB.
Success was obtained in 55 (63%) of the 88 patients.
In 39, a cartilage plate was placed on the CORP head to prevent extrusion, and the success rate was 77% in these patients.
For staged operations to treat chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma, the success rate was 76%.
