Abstract

A 69-year-old male with chondrosarcoma of the larynx is reported. The patient was admitted with a 5-year history of hoarseness and one month history of dyspnea. Laryngoscopy revealed a large submucosal mass involving the left hemilarynx, narrowing the laryngeal lumen. Laryngeal computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed the presence of a massive lesion arising from the cricoid cartilage. Because of the large extent of the tumor, total laryngectomy was performed. Pathologic examination of the surgical specimen confirmed the diagnosis of low-grade chondrosarcoma. The characteristic features and the management of chondrosarcomas are discussed with a review of the literature.
