An expandable metallic stent was used in the treatment of a 53 year-old man with laryngeal cancer. The patient had dyspnea due to progressive tracheal stenosis caused by mediastinal invasion of laryngeal cancer. After insertion of the expandable metallic stent, the diameter of the trachea had expanded and his dyspnea was improved. The patient died of cardiopulmonary arrest however, thought to be due to obstruction by sputum 13 days after insertion.
