Pemphigoid is an autoimmune disease characterized by the formation of dermal bulla in the basement membrane zone. Cicatricial pemphigoid is a variant which typically involves the mucosal surfaces, and is characterized by its predilection for scarring. However, cicatricial pemphigoid in the aerodigestive system is rare. In this paper, we report a case of severe, total laryngeal stenosis caused by cicatricial pemphigoid which necessitated a tracheostomy. Laser surgery and a T tube were very effective for the resection of the cicatrix and for the prevention of recurrence. The historical, clinical, histological and therapeutic features of cicatricial pemphigoid are presented with special reference to the laryngeal lesions.
