Abstract

The countermeasures of productivity improvement and dust amount decrease in the electric arc furnace had been analyzed based on the various scrap melting experiment results with 10 ton capacity furnace and another literatures and papers. With the C source addition and oxygen blowing, and the heat supplies of metal oxidation and C combustion, the electric power decreased and the operation time was shortened. The operation time is almost determined by the oxygen blowing amount. The larger the gas generation amount by C source combustion (bubble generation amount), the greater the dust generation amount. The dust generation amount is almost determined by the Zn and Fe amounts in the dust. The compounds of Zn and Fe in the dust were configured with abundant zinc ferrite, small amount of hematite and zinc oxide. The elements that transfer to the dust by bubble-bursting are not only Fe but also Zn as for the new dust generation mechanism clarification. Based on these analyzed results, the operation analysis was performed by use of the current actual operation data. The dust generation amount was reduced with the cut of C source and oxygen blowing and the electric power and CO2 generation amount were also reduced.
