Abstract
The growth and development of the heating furnaces were outlined and the box-, cell-, and cylinder-type for the pipe still distillation by direct firing were compared, the vertical cylinder type being recommended as the most economical.The general considerations for several items, such as uniformity of heating, types (vertical or horizontal), heating curves, heat transfer etc.were given.The cleaning of tubes by coke burning is described.
