Abstract
The developement of the Lurgi pressure gasification process was historically outlined and especially the large scale plants now under construction or contemplation were explained.Ruhr high volatile caking coals were gasified with success by equipping the special agitating apparatus. The gasification capacity could be increased to two or three times higher than that reached before the War.At the plant which will be erected on behalf of Ruhr Gas A.G.in Dorsten, the gas is purified by Rectisol process, the phenol containing gas liquor is worked-up in a Phenosolvan plant and the refining of the raw benzine is made by Benzoraffin process for the perfect recovery of the valuable coal compounds.Hitherto this process was exclusively used for the production of the town gas, but now in South Africa the large scale plant for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis gas production, and in Pakistan the plant for the ammonia synthesis gas are under construction respectively.
