Abstract
In order to accomplish the five-year rationalization project of the coalmining industry, it is necessary to increase the effectual demand for coal about 107 tonand promote the coal chemical industry. The carbonization of coal has been generallyconsidered in Japan from of old as the coal chemical industry, but in view of the yieldof tar and the demand for coke, we cannot depend only on this carbonization. Here isthe necessity of the new coal chemical industry.
Among the present technologies of the new coal chemical industry are (1) gasificationof coal and (2) chemical industries utilizing coal as raw material, i. e., hydrogenation, carbonization, solvent treatment, fluidized carbonization, etc.
For the development of these technologies, it is more necessary that the present coalmining industry should positively act in concert with electrical, gas and chemical industriesand should take up technologies of petrochemical industry on the one hand, andthe coal mine itself should develop new branches of chemical industry which utilizesthe low grade coals, fine coals, etc. on the other hand.
