Abstract

—It has been well known that the Japanese coals have great differences both in chemical and physical properties from those of foreign coals, such as Europian ones, but none has clearly pointed out, from what ground these special characters of the Japanese coal have been caused.
The differences in characters of coal are considered in general not to depend on the dissimilar properties of raw materials, but on that of the physical and chemical reactions through the coalification process, whihc are controlled by biological and geological conditions. From a lot of geological and chemical data about the Japanese coal, it has been discussed here, what the most important conditions were taken for granted for forming, of specialities of the Japanese coal.
