Abstract
The coal carbonization industry is generally apt to be a declining one owing to the progress of petroleum industry, but in Japan it will be going ahead with the iron industry just contrary to that in U.S.A. and U.K.
With the progress in iron making technology, coke rate is expected to reach 0.47 in 1970, however, coke demand will be increasing by the production increase of cast iron.
Japanese coal carbonization industry has made remarkable progress which has resulted in the scape-up of coke oven and longer lifo of the oven as well as the better-ment of coke quality.
Yawata Chemical Ind, Ltd. is supplied with coke oven gas from Yawata Iron Works and produces ammonia, methanol and ethylene derivatives. Residual gas is all recirculated to Yawata Iron Works. For of coke oven gas. it is important to expand the utilization of ethylene.
