Abstract
This paper describes the outline of the use of asphalt i. e. vacuum residue and solvent extracted asphalt in the future. In view of supply and demand of asphalt in Japan, surplus of asphalt production should be expected in these several years, and it is necessary to study the plan how to increase the asphalt demand and how soon to put into action of this plan.
Significant methods to increase the demand of asphalt are coking and/or gasification, and in these points the problems are the developments of usage for the great deal of gases and high sulfure contained coke produced from the units.
