Abstract

This paper describes our previous studies on the kinetic phenomena of sugar metabolism by plant cells suspended in liquid culture media using an infrared spectroscopic measurement that could be a non-destructive, chemical-free, simple, and rapid method. We developed the simultaneous determination method of the metabolites in the liquid culture media suspending plant cells by analyzing the infrared spectroscopic characteristics, and gave the overview of the sugar metabolic kinetics based on the time course information of the metabolites contents determined by the infrared spectroscopic method. In particular, we focus our attention on the kinetic sugar uptake phenomena by suspension plant cells from the liquid culture media.
