Abstract
Recently the development of aircraft ground movement control system in airport has become an important problem. In this paper, the lighting system of taxiway centerline lights to give a good visual guidance to a pilot is described.
The following results are obtained:
(1) Fundamental data, i.e. pilot eye heights, cockpit vision angles, lane curvatures, background luminances and low visibility conditions are summarized and classified.
(2) Experiments have been carried out with the artificial fog chamber equipment to ostain the visibility relation between a green light and affecting factors. The illumination range required at a pilot eye position is established as a result.
(3) Fitting arrangement methods to give a satisfactory visual guidance to a pilot are studied, and arrangement system on taxiways is decided.
(4) Proposed light distributions fittings for cat. II and cat. IIIA are shown by theoretical studies to assure the effective visibility under various conditions.
