Abstract
A mass spectrometer was used to measure diffusion coefficionts, permeabilities and solubilities of hydrogen in some kinds of fused quartz tubes, which are now used for newly developed lamps.
The values obtained for diffusion coefficient at 800°C is 2-3×10-6cm2/sec, and the activation energy of diffusion at 400-800°C is 11.6 Kcal/mol. These values are in good agreement with other reported values.
Precise measurements at elevated temperatures exceeding 800°C generally showed an unusual fall off of diffusion coefficient, while permeabilities showed monotonical increasing, and solubilities, which were calculated from diffusion coefficient and permeability, displayed abrupt rise.
