Abstract
20 coals were hydrogasified at hydrogen pressure of 1MPa using TPR technique. Carbon conversion to liquid hydrocarbons have a good relation to tar yield in the pyrolysis with N_2. The maximum yield was obtained from coals with carbon contents around 80%. Carbon conversion to CH_4 is large and constant, in general, for low rank coals, decreases sharply around 75-80% of carbon content and reaches a constant and low value above 80% carbon content. There is an intimate relation between CH_4 formation rates and BET surface area.
