Coal was reacted with 18O2 and H218O respectively in a closed cell by heat treatment at 60 °C, and the resulting evolved gases were quantified by isotope. As a result, CO and CO2 containing 18O were confirmed under both conditions. H218O was also observed in the reaction with 18O2.
From the above, it was found that there are chemical reactions in which water contributes to the low-temperature oxidation of coal and reactions in which water molecules are generated.
