Coprocessing of Wandoan or Akabira coal with Athabasca oil sand bitumen was carried out over coal liquefaction catalyst (ex: NiCl_2-LiCl-KCl) and/or upgrading catalyst of heavy oil (ex: Ni-Mo/Al_2O_3). The highest oil yield and the highest conversion to benzene soluble materials were attained when the two catalysts were used together.
