Abstract
Effect of C/N ratio on mesophilic methane fermentation using syrup waste was investigated with the lab scale reactor. The C/N ratio in raw materials using syrup waste (carbon source) and urea (nitrogen source) were adjusted to 5 (Run A), 15 (Run B) and 25 (Run C), respectively. Among these Runs, the amount of biogas generation (ml/L/g-TS) for Run C was higher than that for the other Runs. On the other hand, Run D (the C/N ratio=15 using fish extract) was also carried out. It was suggested that fish extract was able to use as nitrogen source, but needed the alkali-heat treatment as pretreatment.
