Abstract
A new simulation method has been developed on the basis of DEM (Distinct Element Method) to analyze both the non-spherical particles motion and breakage behavior and it was named ADEM (Advanced DEM). In ADEM, a cluster particle is represented by agglomerate of primary particles, which are connected each other by joint-spring. The compression test of irregular-shaped particle was perfomed by experiment and ADEM. The shape of particles were measured by 3D scanner. The maximum strain and joint-spring coefficient are found to be important parameters to represent the breakage behavior. Good agreement with the experimental results of the Load-displacement curve can be seen when adjusting these parameters. These results suggest that ADEM would be a useful tool to analyze the partilcle breakage behavior.
