Abstract
The ethanol yield of rice straw can be improved by using starch in addition to cellulose and hemicellulose as ethanol material. In order to saccharify starch with amylase, it is necessary to gelatinize by heat-treatment but, and gelatinization is caused also by alkali treatment. The eluted starch is converted into glucose by carrying out pH control of the alkaline solution which starch eluted and adding amylase, and glucose yield of rice straw was improved by saccharification of starch. The following estimates were obtained by the new system adding the starch-saccharization process into the bioethanol manufacture model reported in the last fiscal year. The ethanol yield of rice straw was improved from 254 L/t at the case of saccharifying cellulose and hemicellulose to 316 L/t.
