Abstract
This article proposes Dyadic Energy Security Indicator (DESI), a new index to evaluate bilateral international relationships related to energy resource trade. While conventional idea focuses on the import-side's dependency on energy resource trade, DESI also takes into account the export-side's dependency on the foreign market. In other words, DESI represents the balance of energy trade between import and export countries. By using DESI, we analyze and compare the characteristics of Japan's recent natural gas trade.
