The weight-loss behaviors of Whatman CF-11 and Avicel PH-101 were studied with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) by comparing under the isothermal and dynamic conditions. As well-known, TG and derivative of TG (DTG) curves under dynamic mode shifted to the lower temperature region successively by decreasing the heating rate from 10 to 5 to 1°C/min. We intend to discuss these features with the cellulose activation process, which was originally proposed by Bradbury et al. as “active cellulose” formation.
