Abstract
In order to discuss hydrogen transfer process in coal liquefaction with acatalyst and a hydrogen-donor solvent, hydroliquefaction of Yallourn, Wyoming coal and cracking of benzyl phenyl ether in tetralin or tetralin/naphthalene mixed solvents were carried out under a hydrogen atmosphere with highly dispersed catalyst. It was suggested that the direct hydrogen transfer from gas phase hydrogen to thermally decomposed free radicals occurred significantly in the presence of dispersed Ru or Mo catalysts even in the presence of tetralin.
