Abstract

The purpose of this technical report is to show the changes in the observation point of Narabigaoka in Kyoto City after it was designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. There was investigated three items: changes in Narabigaoka and changes in the area where scenic views are desirable; calculation of the proportion of landscape elements within the field of view from observation points; and a visibility investigation. The results confirmed that there have been major changes since the area was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty, due to farmland development, deforestation and restoration, forest fires, and typhoon damage. The current situation and composition of the landscape was also confirmed by calculating the proportion of landscape elements from the field of view of the observation points. The results showed that the view was obstructed by trees and other obstacles at all observation points. By showing the current state of the observation point, we gained knowledge that will lead to a reevaluation of its status as an observation point in the future.
