Abstract
The response of workers to largely technologically determined variations in the nature of work in the production process is here analyzed by the "task attributes" approach. The sample of 24 jobs and 314 workers studied was drawn from 3 factories, deliberately selected to secure broad diversification. As the main result, the job attribute scores correlate significantly with the mean values of work satisfaction for every job, and two different patterns of response to job attributes are found by a twofold division of workers' ages. Finally, it is concluded that this approach is useful.
