A preventive maintenance and replacement policy of machines whose capabilities deteriorate as time elapses is given. The objective of this paper consists in maximization of the pesent value of all futura net profits over a series of equal periodic replacement. The best policy which spans infinitely and finitely planned intervals is analyzed by the discrete maximum principle.
