Abstract

Due to the friction resistance reduction and eco-friendly antifouling effects of silicone resin coating systems, they are applied to ship hulls and propellers. This study elucidates the anti-corrosion effects of a coating film on aluminum bronze and the cathodic disbondment resistance of a silicone resin coating system. The results of the immersion corrosion and cathodic disbondment tests conducted in seawater reflected correlations between electrochemical measurements and observations of the metal corrosion condition, in addition to the characteristics of coating systems. The results clarified the corrosion behavior of coated aluminum bronze. The cathodic disbondment resistance of a silicone resin coating system was also evaluated.
