Abstract
This paper describes the haiku column which appeared in 1887 on Eisai Shinshi that was the earliest magazine for the children in modern Japan. At first, we catch the outline of the magazine, and grasp the reason why the magazine was published. Next, we confirm that the contributors to the magazine spreaded out through the Japanese whole country except Hokkaido and Okinawa. We analyze the trait of its spreading and research the sign of modern culture appeared there because the contributors to the magazine attended as individuals. In the end, 3 haiku poets are estimated from the participant of the haiku column in 1887. The role of the magazine is examined by investigating the cultural part which three people played. We discuss the medium of the magazine provided the place to participate in the culture as an individual.
