Development of Radar ARPA Simulator Software using AIS Data for Ship Data

Abstract

For the safety navigation of the ship, it is necessary for navigator to understand a surrounding situation that changes promptly and they must judge proper ship handling with various information. Recently, it is general to use a radar ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aids) for this purpose. To practice usage of radar system effectively, radar simulator have been developed and utilized for training. In general, process to generate training scenario is not so simple and is time-consuming task. We propose the radar simulator as a PC software which uses the recorded AIS data for surrounding ship's data, and the scenario can be made automatically from actual data. So the user can do training anytime anywhere. To improve the efficiency of training, we introduce some technique to generate more realistic display image of ships and land area. In this paper, system configuration, and conclusion of its execution will be given.
