Abstract
The shipbuilding industry is one of the key industries in Japan. The dock master is bearing the duty which commands the sea trial of a new ship in the shipyard. With reduction of Japanese oceangoing ships' officers in recent years, the problem of lack of a candidate of a dock master is realized. The authors carried out the questionnaire about the current situation of the dock master. As a result, the actual conditions, such as age of the dock master in a shipyard and generation composition and so on, became clear. And, we proposed a new education and training scheme to become a dock master with amendment of related laws and establishment of facilities for education and training.
