A Study of Safety Standard of Berthing Manoeuvre for Cruise Ship –I.

Abstract

In recent years, the number of ports of call taken by cruise ships has grown in Japan. These ships are larger than other vessels which have visited the port before, and their dimensions sometimes exceed harbour regulations.

Therefore, it is necessary for cruise ships to check the safety of their navigation when they berth.

The purpose of this study is to establish the safety standard for cruise ships in harbour. In this paper, we propose a method to assess this safety using the simulation of a typical phase of ship handling in harbour.
