Abstract

In order to evaluate the regional risk to the Hanshin Port from the tsunami associated with the Nankai Trough earthquake, the Hanshin Port divided into 4 wards and the tsunami elements such as water level and flow were quantified for each ward using the tsunami simulation results obtained from previous research. Significant tsunami elements were observed near the coast of Sakai-Senboku Ward, with the largest water level fluctuations and strong flow. Strong flow also occurs near the coast of Osaka Ward. The calmest tsunami behavior was observed in the Amagasaki-Nishinomiya-Ashiya Ward. It was suggested that the tsunami elements at the Hanshin Port have different characteristics depending on location and structure of each the port wards, and that risk countermeasures need to be taken according to those characteristics.
