Abstract
A questionnaire survey which concerns the effect of meteorological and oceanographical conditions on passage route to solitary island facing an open sea is carried out. The obtained results are summarized as follows: (1) The departure is interrupted on ninety percent of passage routes. The thresholds for the interruption are 3〜4 (m) of wave height, 15〜19 (m/sec) of wind velocity, and 500〜700 (m) of visibility. (2) On thirty percent of passage routes, the seamen feel difficulties in approach ship handling to quay by effect of wave and wind. The thresholds for the difficulties are 1.5〜2 (m) of wave height, 15〜20 (m/sec) of wind velocity. (3) Above twenty percent of passage routes have an experience of mooring accident. The main reason is breakage of mooring rope by swell. (4) Above eighty percent of passage routes hope improvements of harbor's ability. (5) The most severe passage route in meteorological and oceanographical condition is South West Islands region. The next are the West Kyusyu region and the region facing Sea of Japan. (6) We have studied about the prevention system of ship passage routes and hope the system to improve the ability of berth.
