Abstract
The suitable adjustments make the auto-pilot exhibit sufficiently its performance and the effective automatic steering of the ship possible. Consequently we require them according to the manoeuvering indicies that vary with the ship's condition. This paper takes the transfer function appling the manoeuvering indicies, analyzes it by frequency response method, and describes the method that finds the most suitable adjustment. To find it we propose the investigation of the transient response in changing the ship's course under automatic steering. We will not treat here the non linear elements, but analyze only the linear elements included in the auto-pilot.
