On the Sea Fog and Shipwrecks in Mid-Summer along the Kanto Coast

Abstract

Along the Pacific coast of Kanto district, dense sea fog occurs in midsummer after the so-called fog season from April to early July. In this paper an analytical study of sea fog and shipwrecks due to the dense fog were investigated. The occurrence of sea fog seriously depends on cold water off Boso and Izu peninsula cut off from the big stationary cold water mass off Sanriku.
