Abstract
(1) The forgeability of some binary aluminium alloys and some commercial strong aluminium alloys was investigated by shock compression test at higher temperatures. The conclusion thus obtained is that such an alloy as 25 S, containing no Magnesium, is the highest in forgeability of six alloys examined, viz., SD, ESD, SD1, DM31, RR56, & 25 S.
(2) The hot-pressing test shows that the main defects sometimes occurred in the forgings of strong Al-alloys are almost all due to several segregated compounds or eutectics and pin-holes in original ingots.
(3) The results on hot-rolling test admit that the tensile strength and elongation of forged strong Al-alloys after heat-treatment increase as the amount of forging do, but that the yield point remains nearly unchanged. Why is it so The authors' consideration upon this question is fully expressed.
