We studied the formation and propagation of fatigue cracks by Upton-Lewis type repeated bending fatigue testing machine. The effect of radius of notch, heat-treatment and the carbon content in carbon steel, and the effect of heat-treatment of Ni-Cr steel as well as the law of proportionality of the test-piece were studied.
