Abstract

In Turkey, the main housing policy for erthquake recovery is giving ex-owners permanent houses that are constructed in suburbs, which apart from damaged area by Turkish government. This study aims to examine the process for earthquake recovery and to clarify characteristics and problems focusing on social background and the sufferers' consciousness. The results are shown as follows; (1) Ex-owners claim unfairness about public support prescribed damage level. (2) The sufferers would like to live same place after earthquake but they consider safety locations. (3) They prefer three-storied condominiums to high-rise condominiums and agree housing policy on the main points. But there are a lot of problems in new towns and developed area.
