Abstract
The national government has been putting efforts in regional revitalization. The core of regional revitalization lies in the need to promote community and human resource development. Universities can potentially play a role in raising students’ interest in regional areas by effectively implementing regional revitalization internships. However, in the current competitive environment, this paper reviews whether the use of Regional Revitalization Internship can effectively achieve regional revitalization. I examine the data from a three-year regional human resource development program undertaken in conjunction with the City of Takayama Tourism operators and discuss the requirements and challenges of using internship programs as a method of achieving regional revitalization.
