Abstract
Scenic byway has been introduced officially in Hokkaido, Japan since 2005 based on American scenic byway sys-tem and then 13 main routes and 2 proposed routes have been designated. In this research, tourist activity on Taisetsu Furano scenic byway route which has introduced in Japan for the first time was analyzed and also estimated the economic effect on tourist season using travel cost method. As the result, it was revealed that the excursion range of tourists expanded widely by introducing scenic byway system and then the economic effect was evaluated at 341,300 million yen due to increase of consumer surplus per person.
