Abstract
This research aimed to identify activities in which there is a high priority to develop methods of evaluation among various management activities for delivering quality nursing care in Japanese hospitals. We conducted Delphi method-based surveys with 281 certified nursing administrators. Forty-nine administrators completed the surveys (response rate: 17.4%). Among five categories with 24 activities, “management of nursing organization” and “prevention of adverse events” were judged as the “highest priorities for evaluation.” “Pressure ulcer prevention” and “falls prevention” were judged as the “second priorities for evaluation.” Activities for “improving health care provider-patient relationships” were mostly judged as “no need for evaluation.” In addition, the study determined that there is no need to develop numerical indicators and evaluate the efficiencies of activities for “improving health care provider-patient relationships”. We should develop evaluation methods for activities judged as high priority for evaluation and consider how to evaluate health care provider-patient relationships including qualitative approaches.
