Abstract
Consumers must be aware that product accidents can occur due to age-related deterioration and should learn how to prevent this from happening. Society is in need of a mechanism for preventing product accidents among elderly people, as they tend to use products over a longer period of time. In this study, trends seen over recent years regarding the prevention of product accidents as caused by age-related deterioration were summarized; furthermore, hearing surveys were carried out with businesses working on this issue. These businesses were trying to prevent product accidents from happening in the context of the lifestyles of elderly people. To help elderly people prevent product accidents caused by age-related deterioration, consumer education is necessary through community based collaboration.
