Abstract

A lure using the synthetic sex pheromone, (Z)-7,15-hexadecadien-4-olide, of the yellowish elongate chafer, Heptophylla picea Motschulsky, was evaluated in fields of the blueberried honeysuckle. White rubber septa impregnated with 10 mg of (Z)-7,15-hexadecadien-4-olide were shown to be useful to capture males of this species. The lure attractiveness was inhibited by addition of 10% E-isomer, but not at 1% level. Only the (+)-enantiomer of (Z)-7,15-hexadecadien-4-olide showed attractiveness to males, and the activity was not inhibited by addition of the (−)-enantiomer.
