Life Cycle of the Soybean Aphid Aphis glycines MATSUMURA, in Japan

Abstract

The life cycle of Aphis glycines in Japan has been unknown although its life cycle has been studied in China. Following the Chinese reports we surveyed the species mainly on rhamnaceous plants from 1981 to 1990. The life cycle was clarified by transfer experiments and field observations. The species alternates between Glycine spp. and Rhamnus spp. hosts as in China. The life cycle is described along with the forms on the primary hosts.
