Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors related to the intention of visiting nurses to remain employed, intention to continue working as a visiting nurse, and intention to continue working as a nurse. A questionnaire survey was conducted by mail in 2007. The questionnaire included the following scales and items: intention to remain employed, intention to continue working as a visiting nurse, intention to continue working as a nurse, job satisfaction, interpersonal conflict, social support in the workplace, social skills, assertiveness, and some individual factors. Subjects were 82 visiting nurses whose average age was 44.5 ±8.0 years. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used. The results showed that job satisfaction, the number of visits, interpersonal conflict in the workplace and social skills were significantly related to the intention to remain employed. These results suggest that the managers should implement strategies to enhance job satisfaction and social skills of visiting nurses. They also should adjust interpersonal relations in the workplace and coordinate the number of visits of each nurse in order to support their intention to remain employed.
